Hi, my name is Lulu Garza, I am married and have two great children. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 24, 1998.

It was a total shock, because I come from a family of 10, 6 of which are girls, and my oldest sister had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990. I really thought, "What are the chances of 2 in the same family?"

Being a nurse I had done breast self exams and had previous biopsies that had been negative.

In our family I have 2 first cousins that have also been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am not only walking as a survivor, but for 2 of my cousins. One of my first cousins, Veronica, passed away in Sept. 2001, leaving 2 young daughters, 6 and 10, and a loving husband. My other cousin, Cordy, has been rediagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing her second round of chemotherapy series. Cordy is married and has 2 small boys, 3 and 5. God has truly blessed me, I have been cancer free since I finished my chemo in Sept of 1998.

I am walking to raise money for women who cannot afford to have the medical attention they need, and to spread the news that breast cnacer is cureable if caught early. Women and men need to be advised of the importance of breast self exams, and mammograms.
